What I would improve about Google Reader
Sunday July 1st, 2007
It’s not often for me to admit my addictions, but at this moment in time I’ll give in to an exception to the rule.
I’m an RSS junkie, information addict, news lover, and serial procrastinator, whatever you want to call it. The majority of my time on the Internet is spent reading numerous RSS feeds through the wonder that is Google Reader. While many may enjoy this pastime without fail, some things about Google’s creation irritate me immensely, which is why I’ve come round to writing this article.
Mainly to suggest some improvements to their reader, and make my life easier (selfish I know), but I feel many will agree with my propositions.
Firstly and most foremost, the “settings” page is abysmal. It’s honestly one of (…)

Vista has launched everyone
Thursday February 1st, 2007
Microsoft released their next edition of Windows on Tuesday, an historic event? Didn’t it seem a bit of an….anti climax?
News sites and technology blogs spent weeks anticipating Vistas release, on the day there was a breadth of news coverage and media reviewing the install process, posting screen shots and so forth. Did anyone really give a damn though? Half the people I spoke to on Tuesday didn’t even realise it was out and wasn’t too fussed about upgrading from their beloved and well nurtured XP system.
Since then the media seems to of stopped, it’s like it’s just been brushed under the carpet only to find a few weeks later. Perhaps those who have exchanged £150 or so are busy testing out their new (…)

The European launch of the ‘most eagerly anticipated console of all time‘
Sony have finally managed to locate Europe on the map and announced that we’ll be getting a slice of the PS3 pie. Everyone knows that my opinion of the machine (and Sonys arrogance) dwindles by the day, but I’ll be interested to see what exactly happens on that fateful day.
It’s stated that 1 million units will be available to purchase EU-wide. with around 1 quarter of that coming to us Brits.
250,000 machines. That’s woefully low for a console launch, people can only but hope Sony will be shipping the things on a constant basis to finally get their hands on what they want.
However, as everyone knows by now, console launches tend not (…)

Are you sitting on a Gamecube gold mine?
Wednesday January 24th, 2007

With the Wii hysteria starting to settle down and a lack of new releases, curious Wii owners are starting to focus their attention on discovering the delights that the Gamecube backwards compatibility can offer them. The problem is, as we all know, the Gamecube in the UK never faired too well towards the end of its life. In the end, most high street shops removed the machine and software from their catalogue.
This meant that prior to the Wii, the gamecube developed a hefty second hand market, you could pick up the machine for £35 and quite a few games for next to nothing, with only a trickle of new releases to purchase from Internet retailers. The Gamecube lost its (…)

A ceremonious return!
Friday January 19th, 2007
Okay so it’s pretty obvious this blog has been suffering from a lack of updates and it’s this to which I apologise. A lot has happened in a month (or there abouts) and I’ll drop the usual excuse of being too busy to think of blogging. Don’t fear though, I have returned to resume normal service.
So, what exactly have I been doing over the Christmas period and beyond? To be entirely honest, not a lot, most of it was just spent consuming alcohol or eating, as you always do. Other then that, my Wii has been a slice of briliiance, you know Nintendo have got it right when you get home from the pub to find your family playing Wii Sports.
Since then I’ve moved back (…)

Sony tries to get down with the kids. Fails.
Thursday December 14th, 2006
E3 was bad enough, Sony stumbled through their shoddy presentation making various claims and sound bites for the Internet to devour and manipulate. But what you’re about to hear next goes beyond all expectations, I honestly couldn’t believe how ridiculous a company could get.
As we all know, the PSP isn’t fairing too well under Nintendo’s mighty grasp of the handheld world. Instead of say, releasing more games for it, pumping more money into it, Sony decided to go down the most ridiculous route you could imagine and do it wrong at the same time.
Basically, they paid a marketing company to set up a blog from the point of view of some kids who want a PSP for christmas. They hoped the cheesy videos and printable (…)

Just remember to re-sync your controller in the future
Saturday December 9th, 2006
I live in a flat with 5 other people and three of use are happy owners of the amazing Nintendo Wii.
As you can imagine, multi-player mayhem is on the agenda so there’s usually a Wii in the lounge, located just across the corridor from my room. So, after re-syncing my controller with the Wii in there, a good game of Tennis ensued, with much brutality, there’s marks on the ceiling from Wii-motes and bruises to share. Take note of health and safety information eh?
Anyway, after a while I decided to come back into my room, put my controller down and turned off my Wii (from the button on the front). A few seconds later I hear cries of confusion coming from the lounge. Upon further (…)

Nintendo Wii
Saturday December 9th, 2006
December 8th 2006, the day that changed the gaming world forever?
Well, after a day spent trawling around town, I finally managed to get my hands on a Nintendo Wii. Not without hassle however, getting it was a journey starting at 8o’clock in the morning. Nearly all places were pre-order only, as expected, the only place we could find who didn’t take them had already sold 6 Wii’s off the shelve.
My only hope was Currys, the incompetent store of woe. There was a small gathering outside the doors, 8:50am, you could pick the chancers from the look in their eyes. Darting from shop to shop in the vein hope that one of them, just one, will have a console to sell outright. We had our pre-orders (…)

Wii mania.
Thursday December 7th, 2006
It’s Wii-day for us Brits tomorrow, as I sit here on Wii eve, I can’t help thinking it will be a complete and utter disappointment. I’m not going to get my hopes up, because the probability is pretty high to assume I won’t get one. Even though I have two pre-orders sitting in tow different shops.
The first is a no show, they said I can have one on the next delivery. The second one I picked up on Monday, from Currys and they seemed absolutely oblivious to what I wanted. In the end they took my £20 deposit and gave me a receipt, I’m a bit apprehensive to wonder whether the girl that served me knew what she was doing. So hopefully employee incompetence means (…)

Download YouTube Videos to your hard drive.
Sunday December 3rd, 2006
Disclaimer: I’m unsure as to what the legality of this is, but to be fair, youtube hasn’t got the greatest reputation in the world.
Isn’t it annoying that the flash player on youtube doesn’t cache your videos? Or you view a video but can’t find it again the next day? Wouldn’t it be better if you could just download it? Well, you’re in luck, there’s a simple way to download videos straight your hard drive, so you can view it whenever you want.
So how do you do it? Well, some places recommend a Firefox plugin of sorts, but I use a site called KeepVid. All you need to do is simply paste the URL of the respective video into the textbox at the top (…)
